Hear the HU's Epic First New Song in 2 Years "This Is Mongol"

Mongolian folk-metal band drop first taste of sophomore album

One of the most anticipated metal albums of the year is the sophomore effort from Mongolian folk-metal warriors, the HU, whose incomparable 2019 debut, the Gereg, propelled them to the forefront of the international heavy rock scene. They just played Coachella and will tour with Five Finger Death Punch and Megadeth later this year, but right now you can hear a brand new song called "This is Mongol" that serves as the first taste of their yet-to-be-announced summer album.

Once again, the band's idiosyncratic use of traditional Mongolian string instruments — the morin khuur, the tsuur, and the tovshuur — and traditional throat singing are called upon to create stadium-sized metal riffs and thunderous vocal melodies. There's no one else who sounds like the HU, and you can listen "This is Mongol" above while you watch its video that was filmed in the middle of the desert.

"We shot in the Mojave Desert, Nevada and the environment reminded us of Gobi Desert in Mongolia," said HU player Jaya. "We enjoyed shooting the video, which happened during our tour and gave us a little break to reminisce about home. The song perfectly matched the environment we made the video in. It was one of the best memories we created as a band and it was special because our producer Dashka was with us to oversee the whole process."
