Hear Industrial Dance Meet Goth Pop on Grimes' New Song "We Appreciate Power"

Catchy, heavy anthem written from perspective of "Pro-A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine"

Long past the airy, subconscious whisper pop of her "Genesis" days, Grimes has pushed further into cyber goth-tinged pop industrial on her new track "We Appreciate Power," her first effort since 2015's Art Angels. Somewhere between the resurgent sound of bands that could tour alongside Orgy in their Candyass heyday and robot-fucking EDM, the song dark and catchy, with a sexually provocative, sinister undertone that intimates the maturation of Grimes as a musician and producer.

Not one to shy from a holistic process that sees music as performance art, Grimes reveals the album's theme and inspiration as "Inspired by the North Korean band "Moranbong," "We Appreciate Power" is written from the perspective of a Pro-A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (it's coming whether you want it or not)." She continues with the stern yet presumably jestful warning, "Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you've supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring."

As reported by Pitchfork in February, the singer promised fans a new album would be available by the end of 2018, pinpointing "realistically fall."
