Ukrainian metal outfit Jinjer are back with another triumphant single, "On the Top," one that comes in with a gut-punch and intersperses melodic passages throughout a progressive trajectory that sees them move further away from their metalcore roots. A stylish accompanying video features the band exploring a crumbling, abandoned building in the daylight while characters act out a silent drama around them amid a flurry of violence brought on by a masked sniper nearby.
"Have you ever felt like a rat in a rat race?" the band ask in a joint statement. "It seems like the world is spinning faster and faster every single day and everyone is going crazy searching for this thing called success."
The song tackles the loneliness and lack of fulfillment that can come with fame or fortune, asking the listener what they're willing to sacrifice to reach the top. Jinjer continue: "Is it really worth climbing up the ladder just to be ON to the TOP if there is nothing or no one there for you in the end? It's OK to want to be the best you can possibly be but just remember that success has its price but it's up to you to decide how much you are willing to pay for it. It's your choice to make but your burden to bare."
