The first full listen of John Carpenter's long-awaited theme for the upcoming Halloween sequel is finally here! All the hallmarks of the inimitable classic chiller are solidly intact, but Carpenter has usurped his own creation with a colder, cleaner and all-around more terrifying update to the tune with "The Shape Returns." While the composer's shoestring budget of the original 1978 slasher film may find itself a bit more well-funded this time around, the essence of the iconic track remains true.
Carpenter's stamp is sure to be all over the David Gordon Green-directed sequel, with him acting as executive producer and creative consultant in addition to composing the film's score. He had some extra help from his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, both of whom collaborated with Carpenter on his three recent solo albums for Brooklyn-based independent record label Sacred Bones. The full soundtrack is also available for preorder via the label and will see an official release the same day as the film, October 19th.
