Industrial artist teams with Kat Von D, IAMX bandmate for dark take on alt-rock classic

Last year, Detroit industrial-pop figure Josie Pace teamed up with like-minded musician Sammi Doll — who plays in Kat Von D and IAMX in addition to making her own music — on an original song called "Perfect Replacement." The duo put their own melodic twist on the sounds of Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode, and now they've united once again for an industrialized cover of Placebo's alt-rock classic, "Pure Morning."

The 1998 song is a tense, trudging cut that sounds like Smashing Pumpkins without the cathartic payoff, but Pace and Doll flip it into a gnarled, clangy and hard-hitting banger that could rattle the rooms of a steamy goth club. Catch the world premiere above via YouTube.

"I have tried to cover so many other songs in the past and they never really worked out," Pace tells us. "But when we started working on 'Pure Morning' by Placebo, it felt like a great fit. I wanted to embody the lyrics and give the song a lot of female attitude. What better way to release a song about the celebration of female friendships, than to ask my amazing friend Sammi Doll to sing on the track with me."

"I had such a great experience recording 'Perfect Replacement' with Josie," Doll adds. "When she asked me to collaborate with her again, it was a no brainer,"
