Hear Legend of the Seagullmen's New Mystical Prog-Metal Song "The Fogger"

No, this is not branded content promoting a new subpar spin off of the 2003 Hollywood abomination League of Extraordinary Gentlemen — this is Legend of the Seagullmen, a supergroup that has nothing to do with any pathetic film franchise, and everything to do with weirdness, campy fun and good riffs.  

The nautically-themed prog-metal act featuring Danny Carey (Tool), Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Pete Griffin (Dethklok, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra), animator/director Jimmy Hayward (Jonah Hex, various Pixar films) and others have just released another new single from their forthcoming debut effort due on Dine Alone (2/9 order yours). Their latest is "The Fogger," a hard-rock exercise that dips into prog, but never spins fully into heavy metal mode. While multiple layers of clean guitars, choir, reverb-heavy vocals, textural synth and more goes into the new track, "The Fogger" feels like the sum of its parts — in the realms of Tool and Mastodon — but never quite make it to either of those full personas. Instead, you're left with a hard-rock journey sure to please fans of both.

"'The Fogger' is a mystical aquatic tale about The Seagullmen's very own drummer, Danny Carey," says Hayward. "He stalks the ocean in search of users, abusers and polluters and deals lethal justice with his third eye while  ripping the faces from skulls, just like he does during the punishing and beautifully complex drum solo in the middle of the song. The solo explodes into a furious conclusion, leaving no doubt about the karmic justice and pure ferocious power of 'The Fogger'!"
