Back in April, Machine Head announced their upcoming album, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN, and unleashed its pedal-to-the-floor lead single, "CHØKE ØN THE ASHES ØF YØUR HATE." Today (June 21), bandleader Robb Flynn and his cohorts — guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (also of Decapitated), bassist Jared MacEachern and drummer Matt Alston — offered up the LP's second preview cut, "UNHALLØWED," which opens as a down-tempo power ballad. But don't think for a second that it doesn't eventually explode into a full-on metal assault. Blast the song above via its high-energy performance video.

As Flynn explained in April, ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN is a concept record inspired by the anime series Attack on Titan. Its narrative revolves around two major characters: Ares (pronounced Aries), who loses the love of his life (Amethyst), and Eros (pronounced Arrows) the perpetrator.

"Drowning in the deepest depression of his life, Eros is at a breaking point," Flynn commented of "UNHALLØWED." "Collecting heartaches, loss, and near psychotic isolation, "UNHALLØWED" is the beginning of a powerful shift of our story. An introspective narrative starts the song lyrically, which is a collaborative effort written by myself, guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka, and bassist/backing vocalist Jared MacEachern and encapsulates the collective strength of this writing team.

"Anchored by an absolutely monstrous groove, the vocals melodically mirror the state of mind of Eros as he reels from the loss of his mother to a drug overdose and begins a slow downward spiral into madness. However, the culmination of the track infuses some much-needed light, but will it be enough?"
