Hear Maggot Heart (Ex–Grave Pleasures) Seek "Medication" on New Death-Rock Banger

Linnéa Olsson, also formerly of the Oath, steps out on her own

There's a gripping urgency to the new Maggot Heart song "Medication," which nods to early Joy Division, Christian Death, Bauhaus (especially "Dark Entries," to which the track bears a striking resemblance) and even Blondie's heavier moments. If those references and the overall tone of the track also point to the work of Finland's Grave Pleasures, it's no coincidence, since Linnéa Olsson previously played guitar for Beastmilk/Grave Pleasures and is the mastermind here. Featuring Uno Bruniusson (Procession, Death Alley, ex–In Solitude and Grave Pleasures) on drums and Gottfrid Åhman (No Future, Reveal, ex–In Solitude, Invidious, Repugnant) on bass, Olsson's solo project seethes with dark death-rock energy and punk-rock melodicism, and "Medication" is a fun, gothic and danceable offering as apt to show you a good time as it is to spit in your face for even asking to hang out.

"This track is about some of the people I've met in the Berlin night and the waves we've ridden together," says Olsson, who is also known for her time in doom-metal duo the Oath. "It's about the quest for the eternal kick, the final cure, the alchemical blitz. The music was originally two different songs that was pieced together into one. Just like the whole album, it was written and recorded very quickly and I think the urgency fits the theme of the song."

The song is a standout cut on Maggot Heart's forthcoming Dusk to Dusk LP, their debut full-length and the follow-up to last year's City Girls EP, which is due on July 13th. You can pre-order your copy via Teratology Sound & Vision.
