Hear Marilyn Manson's Southern Gothic Cover of the Doors' "The End"

Manson and Shooter Jennings reinvent Lizard King's 1967 Oedipal nightmare

Earlier this year, we talked to Marilyn Manson ahead of his summer "Twins of Evil" run with Rob Zombie, he talked to us about his work with outlaw country star Shooter Jenning and revealed that, in addition to recording a new album together, the pair had collaborated on a cover of the Doors' Oedipal nightmare "The End." "Shooter and I also did a cover of "The End" by the Doors, for a new miniseries of The Stand by Stephen King, which I'm also going to be acting in," Manson told us. "I think that sort of kick-started our process for the album, and started us exploring different things."

Now, Manson has finally unleashed said cover and it's a menacing and unhinged reimagining of Jim Morrison and Co.'s 1967 classic-rock bad trip, replete with whining fiddle and skittering piano, which lend an oddly fitting southern-gothic vibe to the proceedings. The single arrives accompanied by a psychedelic visualizer directed by Zev Deans (Ghost, Denzel Curry, Behemoth) utilizing watercolor self-portraits by Manson, and it's available now for streaming and download via the usual suspects, as well as on limited edition 12-inch picture disc.

No word yet on whether Manson will break out the Doors cover while on the road this spring with Ozzy Osbourne on the rescheduled North American leg of the latter's "No More Tours 2" run. See the itinerary for that below.
