Hear Marissa Nadler, Stephen Brodsky's Haunting Guns N' Roses' "Estranged" Cover

Singer teams with Cave In, Mutoid Man leader on dark-folk reworking, which appears on duo's collaborative album 'Droneflower'

On a surface level, putting Guns N' Roses next to Marissa Nadler and Cave In's Stephen Brodsky doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But one listen to Nadler and Brodsky's haunting dark-folk take on GN'R's epic "Estranged" and you'll wonder why this strange pairing didn't happen sooner.

In the hands of these two incredible musicians, the cover (which appears on the pair's collaborative album Droneflower) tones down the original's boisterous guitars in favor of some acoustic work and a ghostly background set of vocals from Nadler, which provide a very lilting atmosphere as a rush of organs play. Instead of cranking out a solo or a giant riff, the duo instead employs a haze of noise to create an alluring texture. It's a very heartfelt cover, which lays bare the essence of the song while transforming it into something entirely new.
