Hear Mars Volta's First Song in 10 Years "Blacklight Shine"

The prog-rock duo have also announced a fall North American tour

Prog-rock luminaries the Mars Volta have returned to earth. The cult-adored band comprised of ex-At the Drive In members Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala went on indefinite hiatus in 2012 after releasing their sixth album, Noctourniquet, that same year, but now they're back with a new song — their first in a decade — and the announcement of a fall tour.

The track is called "Blacklight Shine" and it's a three-minute twist of jazzy, proggy rock that comes packaged in the form of an 11-minute short film directed by Rodríguez-López. You can watch that above via YouTube.

As for the tour, the band are hitting the road later this fall for several stops throughout North America, beginning September 23rd in Dallas, TX, and wrapping up October 21st in L.A. See the full routing below and grab tickets here when they go live this Friday June 24th at 10 a.m. local time.
