Mastodon drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor has shared "Red Death," his first-ever solo song. Inspired by DC Comics' new graphic novel Dark Days: The Road To Metal, it's a one-off ripper that showcases Dailor's vocal chops and stadium-rock sensibilities. For production, the Atlanta musician turned to Eminem and 21 Pilots board wizard Mike Elizondo and longtime Marilyn Manson collaborator Tyler Bates — who also handled the bass and guitar parts — with Dillinger Escape Plan's Gil Sharone handling drum duties.
Dailor says "Red Death" was inspired by the "Batmen" — evil, mutant amalgams of Batman and the Flash — featured in Dark Days: The Road to Metal. "I've always been a fan of anything Batman related and DC Comics as a whole," he says of the track, "so the chance to be connected to that universe is a dream come true."
Mastodon are currently on the road with Primus for the latest round of North American shows behind last year's Grammy-winning album Emperor of Sand.
