Hear Mastodon's Catchy New Anthem "Toe to Toes"

First taste of Atlanta titans' upcoming 'Cold Dark Place' EP

Mastodon recently announced Cold Dark Place, an EP comprising four unreleased tracks recorded during the sessions for the Atlanta titans' last two albums (2013's Once More 'Round the Sun and this year's Emperor of Sand). Now, the band has proffered up the first taste of the upcoming release with "Toe to Toes," a proggy anthem dating back to the Emperor of Sand sessions. Between the chiming, finger-picked riffs and surging, Clutch-y choruses, it stands as one of the band's most immediate songs to date.

Like what you hear? Revolver subscribers will receive a limited-edition seven-inch vinyl single, while supplies last, with their paid order. The A-side contains the EP version of "Toe to Toes," with the instrumental on the B-side. To sweeten the deal, the single comes packaged in a picture sleeve featuring exclusive artwork by Richey Beckett, the U.K. illustrator responsible for Cold Dark Place's cover art.

Speaking of Beckett and Cold Dark Place, be sure to check out Revolver's behind-the-scenes mini-doc on the making of the EP's stunning cover art. Cold Dark Place hits shelves September 22nd via Reprise Records, with a 10-inch vinyl picture disc to follow on October 27th.
