Hear Melvins' Insane James Gang/Butthole Surfers Medley "Stop Moving to Florida"

Track appears on forthcoming 'Pinkus Abortion Technician,' featuring double-bass attack of Jeff Pinkus, Steven McDonald

Less than a year after dropping their epic double LP, A Walk with Love and Death, Melvins have announced another new full length: Pinkus Abortion Technician. The album, out April 20th via Ipecac, is the band's most bass-tastic effort yet, combining the talents of current bottom-ender Steven McDonald (OFF!, Redd Kross), as well as on-again-off-again member Jeff Pinkus, also of Butthole Surfers. (The upcoming album's title doubles as a nod to Butthole Surfers' magnum opus, Locust Abortion Technician.)

They've also shared the album's first single, "Stop Moving to Florida." A percussive playground masquerading as rock medley, the five-and-a-half-minute ripper joins James Gang's "Stop" and Butthole Surfers' "Moving to Florida" in unholy matrimony. It's one of several covers featured on the record, which also includes takes on the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," plus yet another Butthole Surfers reinterpretation, "Graveyard."

"We've never had two bass players. We've had two drummers and two guitar players so it makes total sense to now have two bass players," Buzz Osborne says of the new LP. "We'll be taking this two-prong bass attack on the road as well, which should prove to be interesting. Pinkus Abortion Technician is a radically great record and was a stone groove to record. We drank a lot of coffee and enjoyed each other's company. I like Steven and Jeff a great deal. I admire their bass playing and singing and both of them can grill a mean steak." Duly noted.
