Hear Members of Nothing Channel Cure, Flock of Seagulls on Death of Lovers' New Song

"Orphans of the Smog" is slithery update of Eighties-style romantic goth pop

"Orphans of the Smog" — the latest track from Death of Lovers and the opening cut of their new album, The Acrobat — is a slow-burning exercise in gothic minimalism that recalls the Cure, Joy Division and Flock of Seagulls' "I Ran" in one fell swoop. The song is quite a contrast to previously released synth-driven lead single "The Absolute," which features reverb-heavy guitars that recall Psychedelic Furs and even a sax solo(!) for the haters unconvinced of Death of Lovers' Eighties-ness. Its accompanying Kevin Haus-directed video features our Balenciaga-clad antihero/protagonist (a.k.a. Nothing frontman Nicky Palermo) strolling down the Ave in Philadelphia, while the SEPTA train rumbles above. Check out the song and its video for the first time here at Revolver, and do what you can to catch the band on one of its rare, upcoming U.S. dates, listed below.

The Acrobat hits via DAIS Records on Black Friday. You can order your copy here.
