Hear Metallica's Punishing, Previously-Unreleased Live Version of "For Whom the Bell Tolls"

Rare 1986 recording unearthed for forthcoming 'Master of Puppets' reissue

Metallica have shared a previously-unheard live version of their Master of Puppets staple "For Whom the Bell Tolls." The punishing rendition comes from the Big Four titans' August 3rd, 1986 show at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, during the opening leg of their legendary "Damage, Inc." tour (which found them supporting Ozzy Osbourne). It's one of many rarities exclusive to the remastered deluxe box set and 3xCD versions of Metallica's Master of Puppets reissue, out later this fall. (It is not included on the CD, LP or digital versions.)

Metallica's Master of Puppets reissue arrives November 10th via the band's website and select record stores. The box set is a thrash fan's dream; in addition to the remastered album (both on vinyl and CD), the gargantuan package includes concert recordings from 1984-85 (including a live album on cassette), interviews, demos, rough mixes, a DVD containing live footage and interviews, reproductions of lyrics and — because no box set is complete without some wearables — a selection of buttons. Also included are never-before-released covers of Diamond Head's "The Prince" and Fang's "The Money Will Roll Right In." For more information on the box set, head over to Metallica's website or check out the unboxing video below, featuring James Hetfield himself.
