We're fully here for the current nu-metal revival, and so is San Francisco experimental heavy-music record label The Flenser. The label's new compilation Send the Pain Below (an exclusive vinyl release for subscribers of the label's Series Three membership club) features artists from the Flenser roster and/or musical world — including Vile Creature, Wreck and Reference and others — putting their own spins on iconic songs by Korn, Slipknot, Deftones and more.
Today (March 24th), self-described "heaven metal" project Midwife, a.k.a. multi-instrumentalist Madeline Johnston, has premiered the comp's title track and closing cut, a cover of Chevelle's "Send the Pain Below" off 2002's Wonder What's Next. True to her trademark sound, Johnston brings a gauzy, shoegazing vibe to the nu-metal anthem. Listen above via the single's insectile music video.
