Hear Ministry's Hulking Cover of Stooges' "Search and Destroy"

Al Jourgensen flips Iggy Pop's punk into mechanized sonic warfare

Revolver has teamed with Ministry for an exclusive "bone" vinyl variant of their new album, Moral Hygiene. It's limited to 300 — order your copy now!

Industrial-metal icons Ministry have an album on the way. Last month, we heard a couple of Al Jourgensen's original compositions from his band's 15th opus, Moral Hygiene, and now he's unveiled the record's ode to Iggy Pop.

The album's centerpiece is an extended cover of The Stooges' 1973 ripper, "Search and Destroy." The Raw Power highlight is heralded as one of punk rock's pioneering songs, but Ministry flipped it into a chugging industrial banger that's both heavier and longer than Iggy's original.

Over wobbly bass, surging guitar chugs and atmospheric synths, Jourgensen contorts his gritty voice to fit into Pop's scraggly melodies, and it works out a helluva lot better than you might expect. The best cover songs are able to rearrange the building blocks of the initial composition without rendering it irrecognizable, and Ministry definitely achieves that delicate balance here.

Moral Hygiene is out October 1st via Nuclear Blast and will be available in multiple digital and physical formats, including the Revolver-exclusive "bone" vinyl variant, limited to 300 worldwide. Pre-orders are available now.
