Hear Mongolian Folk-Metal Act the HU Cover Metallica's "Sad but True"

Throat-singing, horsehead fiddles, fire and lightning

When we asked the HU's Nyamjantsan "Jaya" Galsanjamts — one of the Mongolian juggernaut's captivating throat singers — to pick the single greatest metal vocalist of all time, he said James Hetfield of Metallica. Considering such fandom, it makes sense then that the viral phenoms should cover one of the thrash OGs' classic cuts. The song in question? "Sad but True," off the "Black Album," possibly 'Tallica's heaviest track ever. The HU being the HU, they've put their unique "hunnu rock" spin on it, adding traditional Mongolian instrumentation, Mongolian lyrics and — don't worry — plenty of throat singing. The HU's rendition launches "The Best of Better Noise Music: 15 Years of Rock" series, which will run through 2021, marking the label's decade and a half of operation.

"Like millions of people around the world, Metallica has been a huge influence and inspiration for us as music fans and musicians," HU singer and Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle) player Galbadrakh Tsendbaatar, a.k.a Gala, commented. "We admire their 40 years of relentless touring and the timeless, unique music they have created. It is a great honor to show them our respect and gratitude by recording a version of 'Sad but True' in our language and in the style of The Hu."
