Gloom-rocker TJ Cowgill (a.k.a. King Dude) has unveiled a cover of ABBA's iconic track "The Winner Takes It All," featuring grand pianos, violins and vocals from folk-metal songsmith Amalie Bruun (a.k.a. Myrkur.) According to Bruun, the dramatic reinterpretation is a byproduct of the pair's first meeting amid sessions for her most recent LP — last year's Mareridt, recorded in Cowgill's native Seattle — which found the pair bonding over their mutual love of the Swedish pop icons. Listen below.

The haunting new cover arrives just days after ABBA announced they'd completed their first new music in over 35 years. "The decision to go ahead with the exciting Abba avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence," they wrote in a statement, referring to next year's planned hologram tour. "We all felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio, So we did. And it was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!"

Myrkur dropped Mareridt last fall and is currently on tour in Europe, with dates scheduled through late July. Find a full itinerary here, and be sure to read our interview with Bruun about nightmares, black-metal purists and more.
