Hear Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor Sing on Antonio Sánchez's New Song "I Think We're Past That Now"

NIN's Atticus Ross also appears on percussion-heavy collab

Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor wasn't kidding when he told us in 2020 that he and Atticus Ross were going to start collaborating with "a list of people we like." Since then, they've teamed with HEALTH on a killer single, and produced an acclaimed Halsey album. Now, they've joined forces with drummer Antonio Sánchez — who helmed the percussion-heavy score for the Alejandro González Iñárritu's movie Birdman — on a propulsive new song, "I Think We're Past That Now." Notably, Reznor provides lead vocals and wrote the lyrics. Listen above.

"I Think We're Past That Now" will appear on Sánchez's new album, Shift (Bad Hombre Vol. II), due August 26th via Warner Music. It's the only new original song on the album, which otherwise sees Sánchez teaming with Dave Matthews, Becca Stevens, Meshell Ndegeocello, Kimbra, Rodrigo y Gabriela and others to reimagine their songs through his "Bad Hombre" alter-ego.

"My anger transformed," Sánchez commented of the album. "And the fact this material did not originate with me changed the equation. It helped me to bring a fresh perspective and a sense of wonder to 'What else can this be?' And as a result of pandemic-related delays, I keep joking about my having been pregnant for a couple of years … and now there is a really epic baby."
