The great thing about the term post-hardcore is the wide net cast by the label. Surely hardcore is the main conduit, but it's so much more, encompassing metal to indie to goth as well as pretty much anything else on the musical map.

NYC's Primitive Weapons — featuring current and ex-members of Mind of Matter, Spotlights, On the Might of Prices, White Widows Pact, Errortype:11 and many more — embrace the expansiveness of the form on their latest single "Keep the Lights On." Heavy on reverb with a space-meets–Far East vibe, "Keep the Lights On" is a riffy-yet-pensive exercise at half-speed, taking influence from goth, post-rock, prog and more within its multiple movements, melodies and opposing harmonies.

It's a dense one, but avoids overindulgence by looping back to the main melody repeatedly, grounding and focusing the track to a singular message. Primitive Weapons are scheduled to release their new LP Surrender Yourself — which includes "Keep the Lights On" — on September 17th via Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman's Party Smasher Inc
