Hear Papa Roach Team with Fever 333, Sueco on Woozy New Song "Swerve"

Nu-metal vets reupholster their sound on rap-centric new single

Papa Roach have been on a collaborative tear lately. Earlier this year, nu-metal vets dropped a dubsteppy new song called "Domination" that featured DJ's Kayzo and Sullivan King, and last month frontman Jacoby Shaddix teamed up with Ice Nine Kills on their new banger, "Hip to Be Scared."

Now, the group who spawned "Last Resort" have unveiled another new single called "Swerve," which boasts guest verses from Fever 333's Jason Aalon Butler and the pop-punk-influenced rapper, Sueco.

The track's title fits well for two reasons. For one, it's a groovy rap-metal song with a funky horny sample and a plunky bassline that one could easily swerve to on a dancefloor. It's also a hard left turn from the Papa Roach sound that many fans are familiar with.

There are only short splashes of down-tuned guitars, and although Shaddix and his guests are chanting heavily during the song's chorus, it never quite feels like a bonafide metal or hard rock song. It's catchy and fun to listen to nonetheless, and it's good to hear that Papa Roach aren't interested in simply placating OG fans — they're still in this for themselves.
