Bay Area band Provoker conjure up the spirits of the early dark-wave movement with the title track from their forthcoming limited cassette Dark Angel, due June 15th via Smoking Room (you can pre-order yours here). With a lo-fi aesthetic and an overall haunting vibe, "Dark Angel" is a melodic, effortlessly hooky effort that nods to Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy and the Cure. It's punk with a slacker's edge, goth without ever sacrificing songwriting for darkness, and overall the sort of composition that you'll probably end up humming to yourself an hour later without realizing. Check it out above, along with the cut's accompanying video, which finds the middle ground between a sweet middle-school dating video, the game DOOM for PC and a hell house.
