Buzzy left-coast band readies latest effort in time for dates with Fiddlehead

Bay Area-based group Spiritual Cramp may best be recognized for band member Michael Bingham, formerly of post-hardcore outfit Creative Adult and post-post-hardcore outfit Self Defense Family. But Spiritual Cramp bears little resemblance to either, instead leaning on danceable post-punk, driven by Bingham's sonorous vocals. It's a sound created by a whole gang of musicians (six in total), who combine their talents for a wildly energetic live show and the kind of catchy, rhythmic songwriting perfect for upbeat DJ sets. They may take their name from a song by dour ur-goth band Christian Death, but Spiritual Cramp's own output is charming yet unassuming, and most of all very fun.

As a result, last year's Mass Hysteria on React! Records caused a stir, and the band's performance prowess has lit a flame for their forthcoming 7-inch on Deranged. Titled Police State, the four-track EP hits on June 8th, but you can stream it in full above. Order yours via Deranged.

West Coasters, make sure and check out dem boys when they hit the road with Fiddlehead. Dates for said trek are below.
