Hear Psych Rockers Chron Goblin's Trancey New Song "Ghost"

With an endorsement by Orange Amplifiers and a slew of big-name festivals on their resume, Calgarian fuzz masters Chron Goblin have plenty of experience when it comes to making noise and doing it well. Their latest single "Ghost," premiering here today, is a prime example, built around a gloriously trance-inducing, reflective percussive pattern that whips up a hallucinatory state before soothing the ear once more with a meditative wall of distortion-worship. 

"When we were writing 'Ghost,' it felt like we were experimenting with new musical territory," explains drummer Brett Whittingham, who nods to one of his and his bandmates' collective favorite works, Swedish experimenters GOAT's World Music, which they kept in heavy rotation while writing. 

Whittingham says the aim of his drum part was to "balance the trancey effect of the guitar and bass," noting that when compared to their other material, "the phrases are longer and drawn out in a rolling fashion." The resulting six-minute composition is a lush musical tapestry of feedback-soaked psychedelia that avoids the schmaltzy stereotypes that sometimes ensnare lesser artists.
