Hear Quicksand's Soaring New Song "Missile Command"

NYC post-hardcore pioneers announce new album 'Distant Populations,' share fall tour dates

Revolver has teamed with Quicksand for an exclusive "hot pink and cyan blue pinwheel" vinyl variant of their new album, Distant Populations. It's limited to 500 — get yours before they're gone!

Quicksand have a new album coming. The New York City post-hardcore pioneers have announced that their fourth record, Distant Populations, will arrive later this summer, and today they've dropped a soaring new song from it called "Missile Command."

Compared to the stomping "Inversion" single that Quicksand shared back in April, "Missile Command" has a much more subtle and eerie vibe to it that almost sounds like an older Queens of the Stone Age track during the verses. It's got a fat bassline, a steady drum beat and alternately breathy and bursting singing from vocalist-guitarist Walter Schreifels. Watch its trippy cartoon music video while you listen above via YouTube.

"It really kind of focuses on Sergio's [Vega, bassist] whole motif in a very simple way," Schreifels said of "Missile Command." "He and Alan [Cage, drummer] just have this really kind of trademark groove, and I think that really sings on this one to me. I just felt like it's a kind of song that is very us, but we hadn't written it yet."

Like Quicksand's 2017 comeback album, Interiors (their first since 1995), Distant Populations was also produced by Will Yip (Code Orange, Turnstile, Nothing) at his lauded Studio 4 workspace in Conshohocken, PA. According to Schreifels, the 11-track release is a commentary on our social habits and an examination of our roles both as individuals as members of a greater society.

"Everyone is on the one hand so connected with each other, and on the other hand, is so far apart." Schreifels commented. "We're checking out each other's social media and we know what everybody's doing. But when we're sitting in the same room together, we're looking at our phones."

Distant Populations is due out digitally on August 13th and on vinyl September 24th via Epitaph Records. Revolver has an exclusive "hot pink and cyan blue pinwheel" vinyl variant that's limited to just 500 copies. Pre-order yours from our shop before they're gone.
