Hear Serj Tankian's Soaring, Skittering New Solo Song "The Race"

Off System of a Down singer's "completely different" upcoming EP

In September, System of a Down singer Serj Tankian announced a new solo EP, Perplex Cities, for an October 21st release via Arloopa. The multi-instrumentalist described its approach — previewed on the lead single, "Pop Imperialism" — as a representing "a completely different sound than what I've done before."

"Pop Imperialism" delivered on that promise, and so does new single "The Race," which premiered today (October 4th) along with an eerie visualizer video created by doodooc.

Like its predecessor, "The Race" leans into more electronic and ambient sounds than anything SOAD have explored, with Tankian's voice swirls and soaring around the skittering beats and robotic tones. Watch and listen above, and for more from the System singer, check him out, discussing his musical journey, on our "Fan First" podcast below.
