Volbeat's Michael Poulsen cut his teeth playing death metal, so while his current band traffics in a particularly radio-friendly brand of psychobilly-tinged hard rock, the fact that they've collaborated with all sorts of more-extreme-leaning heavy-metal royalty makes sense. In the past, the Danish/American crew, which also features former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano have teamed with King Diamond ("Room 24") and Napalm Death's Barney Greenway ("Evelyn"); today, July 18th, they've unleashed a new cut featuring a shredding solo from none other than Gary Holt — you know, the dude who plays guitar in Slayer and Exodus. "I wanted to add something new and not typical, so why not bring in Gary Holt? He is a great guitar player, and the solo sounds great," says Poulsen.
The single comes ahead of the group's highly anticipated seventh album Rewind, Replay, Rebound, which is set to be released via Republic Records on August 2nd. See the cover art and track listing below. Volbeat will join Slipknot, Gojira and Behemoth next week to kick off the first-ever Knotfest Roadshow tour.
