Hear Slipknot Channel Type O Negative on Brooding New Song "Yen"

Corey Taylor says it's "kind of touching our inner Tom Waits in weird ways"

The first two singles we heard from Slipknot's new album, THE END, SO FAR, were fucking punishing. "The Chapeltown Rag" leaned into their heaviest tendencies, while the slightly catchier though no less brutalizing "The Dying Song" was similarly crushing. "Yen," the third taste of the album out late next month, was described by Corey Taylor as one of his favorites on the record, saying that it takes "a Type O [Negative] approach" that it's also "kind of touching our inner Tom Waits in weird ways."

"Yen" definitely shows a more experimental side of Slipknot, beginning as a slow-builder that bears its teeth about halfway through and then ultimately exploding into a hefty metallic churn laced with a catchy refrain. It basically packs everything Slipknot have done since Vol. 3 into one song without ever sounding jumbled or directionless. And yeah, there're definitely some Type O vibes in there.
