The folks at MetalSucks have brought to light a 1998 track from Mason City, Iowa, nu-metal outfit Smakdab's self-titled debut called "Shadowed," which features guest vocals by Slipknot singer Corey Taylor and production by then–Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison.

According to Smakdab keyboard player Gabe Wilkinson, for the past 20 years the guest contributions have been uncredited after the band "got a nice letter from Roadrunner Records at the time making it very clear to not put Corey or Joey's name anywhere on our release."

The song's of-the-era nu-metal composition and production has tinges of ska and skronky, off-kilter timing that helps it sit nicely among other releases of the time, like Incubus' oft-forgotten early effort Fungus Amongus or even some of the funkier tracks from Limp Bizkit's Three Dollar Bill, Y'all.

Taylor's alternately melodic and roaring performance on "Shadowed," which you can hear above, pre-dates the release of Slipknot's 1999 self-titled debut, and hints at the prodigious chops that would earn him the reputation as one of metal's most popular and dynamic vocalists. As exciting as it is for fans to hear, the performance is cool to revisit even for Taylor himself, who chimed in on Twitter to note that he hadn't heard the song since he recorded it 20 years ago. See his post below.
