Hear Slipknot's Surprise New Song "All Out Life"

Corey Taylor: "The new album is underway, and it's going to be one of the darkest chapters in Slipknot's history"

Slipknot are celebrating Halloween in style, with a surprise new song "All Out Life." The band's frontman Corey Taylor sat down today with Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1 to debut the track, which he says, represents his desire for fans to embrace the "now" of music rather than always focusing on what's next. "Everybody talks about toxic masculinity and toxic fandom these days," he says. "For me, it's more about this toxic idea that unless something came out 10 minutes ago, it's not any good, and that bothers me. It's like, I love new music, but at the same time, don't turn your back on the music that's been ... [The song is] a rallying cry for everyone. It's about all of us getting together and saying, 'You know what. Let's not talk about old. Let's not talk about new. Let's talk about what is. Let's talk about what's good, what's real, and get behind that and start embracing things that matter because there's history there and not just because it's the next best thing.'"

Taylor does also look ahead to future in the interview, however, promising that the new Slipknot record is coming along nicely. "The album is underway, and it's going to be one of the darkest chapters in Slipknot's history," he says. "It's that good. It's complicated, it's dark, it's heavy, it's melodic, it's fierce, it's angry and it's real, it's raw as hell and it's gonna be talking about a lot of things that people are going to need in their life right now."

The singer also dives into his and the band's ability to dissect and accept the dark spots in their past, understanding those times have made them all the people they are now. He says of the recording sessions for the new album, "What felt different was the amount of positivity that we all had in the room, man. It feels like the last couple years, we've all really been able to let go of a lot of negative energy, a lot of pessimistic energy, a lot of things that we were holding onto ... It's allowed me to get out of my own way and enjoy life. It doesn't mean that it's the death of desire or anything like that, but it's allowed me to really take advantage of the time that I have right now, and like the person who I am."
