Hear SPELL Evoke Ghost, Opeth on New Album 'Opulent Decay'

Vancouver power trio SPELL make what they call "hypnotizing heavy metal," a captivating mix of Rush- and Blue Öyster Cult–hailing classic rock, lyrics inspired by Romantic poets like Keats, Shelley and Coleridge, and more modern elements that evoke everyone from Opeth to Ghost. The group are set to release the evocatively titled Opulent Decay, their new 10-track LP and third offering for Bad Omen Records, on April 10th (it's available for pre-order now), but today, they've teamed with Revolver to give you the full listen a few days early. "All of the songs on Opulent Decay deal with the contrast between opulence and austerity, and the decay that results from imbalance," Mesmer says. "Our drive to avoid suffering is strong, but it can be overcome by the love for another and the desire to put them before yourself. Opulent Decay examines this balance and the dangers that await on either side of the pendulum. There's magic in those notes and there are secrets amongst those words. If you listen carefully, you'll find them."
