Hear Tennis System Channel Sonic Youth, New Order on New Song "Rotting Out"

Captivating 'Lovesick' single evokes shoegazing Nineties indie

Rooted in classic Nineties bands like My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins, Tennis System lean into discord on their latest single "Rotting Out," off the group's forthcoming album Lovesick. Using a eerie bent note as its centerpiece, the "Rotting Out" — which was produced by Jack Shirley production (Deafheaven, Gouge Away, Oathbreaker) — feels like a lost Sonic Youth banger at the verse before heading into a very New Orderesque chorus that rides the hi-hat in much the same way "Ceremony" did to great affect. "'Rotting out' was the last song we wrote for Lovesick," says vocalist-guitarist Matty Taylor. "We had actually thought we were done writing the record and were only getting together to run through the tracks to figure out the order and make sure we were tight going into the studio. Sam came into practice with the verse bass line and we took a solid hour and worked it into what you're hearing now. This is my second favorite track on the record."
