Building off the legacy of bands such as the Big Boys, the Dicks and the Butthole Surfers, Texas hardcore punk is a world unto itself. Through the years, Vaaska, Impalers, Criaturas, World Burns to Death, Severed Head of State and so many more have left an indelible mark, blossoming out of either the Chaos in Tejas festival or the generation that followed. The newer crop of bands is thankfully as rancorous as that preceding set, with Power Trip being one of the few to break out into the world at large.
Lace is a Houston-area band and, much like some of our favorites from the area, are pretty unclassifiable. Though their primary conduit is a particularly noisy brand of punk, like Institute, the group deals in post-punk at times, too, and, like Wiccans, delves into psychedelic stratospheres at others. When they're straying away from outward vitriol, Lace can take influence from anyone from the Fall to Sonic Youth, yet when the fury sets in they can be as unforgiving as local punk favorites Glue. Their success lies in their diversity, but regardless of the influences song to song, Lace's debut LP, Human Condition, should please fans of any of the aforementioned bands, as well as Destruction Unit, Ukiah Drag and more. Stream the album in full for the first time below; you can order your copy via Funeral Party and catch the band on the road at the tour dates below.
