Hear thoughtcrimes' Wild New Hardcore Song, Featuring Dillinger Escape Plan Drummer

Drum wiz Billy Rymer shines on adventurous, hard-rocking new track "Punk Rock Guilt"

The Dillinger Escape Plan may have called it a day, but on the bright side in the time since we've been treated to a diverse batch of projects and collaborations from the DEP crew, including the Black Queen, John Frum, Suicidal Tendencies and many others. The latest on deck is thoughtcrimes — a new hardcore-leaning vehicle that features ex-DEP drummer Billy Rymer.

"Punk Rock Guilt" is the band's latest single, due on their debut EP via ex-DEP guitarist Ben Weinman's Party Smasher Inc. Much like Rymer's previous work, thoughtcrimes straddle the line between hard rock and hardcore, dabbling in brutal scream vocals juxtaposed against melodic sung vocals, stepping into ambient parts and back into the brutality with grace, simplicity and congruity. For a band this new, they play like a bunch of old souls — strong chemistry, well-tuned songwriting and drama abounds.

Check out the new track above, which vocalist Rick Pepa describes as about "the idea of waking up in a world you cannot recognize as your own, and the internal dialogue that would ensue. Is it a dream, simulation or paranoid delusions in base reality?"

"I've found we work best under pressure," confesses Billy Rymer with respect to writing the debut EP. "By giving ourselves only one week to write this material, we wouldn't allow ourselves to sleep until it was finished."

Look for the EP soon via Party Smasher.
