Brazilian thrash-death trio Nervosa are gearing up to release their third album Downfall of Mankind via Napalm on June 1st. After revealing brutal first single "Never Forget, Never Repeat" last month, the band is back with another crusher, "Kill the Silence." A searing power-thrash anthem, it finds bassist/vocalist Fernanda Lira, guitarist Prika Amaral, and drummer Luana Dametto galvanizing hyper-speed solos, blast beats and groove-metal breakdowns into an earsplitting call to arms aiming to empower victims of abuse — or anyone who've suffered in silence, for that matter. "Don't lose your hope! Don't lose your strength! You are not alone!" Lira screams on the chorus. For all its sinister sonics, "Kill the Silence" is nothing short of a shot of hope.
The song's accompanying performance visual — which combines scenes of the band ripping through the track surrounded by flaming kettle drums, with shots of a broken woman picking herself up again and forging onwards — underscores the cut's theme even further. "I like the idea of using fire in the video, because i think the symbology has everything to do with the message in the song," Lira explains. "Fire represents renewal and mainly purification, and using it in the video really gives me the idea of triumph, overcoming and moving on."
For Downfall of Mankind (the follow-up to 2016's full-length Agony), Nervosa linked up with producer Martin Furia (Destruction, Flotsam & Jetsam, Evil Invaders), as well as guest musicians João Gordo (Ratos de Porão), Rodrigo Oliveira (Korzus) and Michael Gilbert (Flotsam & Jetsam).
