Hear Virginian Post-Punk Act True Body's Stirring New Song "Spirit City"

True Body are gorgeous new(ish) entrants in the diverse modern scene encompassing post-punk, goth, dream pop, synth pop and related genres. Formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 2015, the band was born of an eclectic and tight-knit community self-described as "denizens of the hardcore and punk spheres, powerful trans thinkers and magicians, soldiers of techno and other various dance musik disciplines." 

On True Body's newest single, "Spirit City," the group invoke a dreamy weightlessness that is both soothing and evocative, like liquid warm nostalgia poured directly into the brain. A stunning video comes along, too, directed by Travis Waddell, that follows the band through a series of beautiful backdrops as singer Isabella Moreno-Riaño intones the lyrics; whether strolling an aging graveyard, enjoying a summer swim in a river, or casually driving through a neighborhood, the group appear relaxed and engaged with both the music and themselves. 

The song will appear on the band's forthcoming debut full-length, Heavenly Rhythms for the Uninitiated. "The significance of the rest of the LP songs, or their relationship to our realities, constantly shifts as we live in and around them" explains Moreno-Riaño. "'Spirit City' is the one unwavering work of the lot, a bright little dream that we carry with us, clutching dearly when we need to. Hope that formed years ago, flitting between fact and imagination and now fixed firmly as a guiding light."
