Hear Year of the Knife Tackle Self-Destruction on New Song "Sick Statistic"

Rising hardcore band drops pummeling cut ahead of Pure Noise Records Tour kickoff

Over the next three days, we'll be premiering an exclusive new song from a different band on the upcoming Pure Noise Tour, which features the stacked bill of Stick to Your Guns, CounterpartsTerror, Sanction and Year of the Knife. First up comes that last band, Delaware's Year of the Knife, with their punishing new number "Sick Statistic," taken from a split that will be available on the tour and features one song from each artist on the lineup.

Combining frigid bleakness with explosive rage, "Sick Statistic" is a heavyweight slab of sludgy hardcore sliced open with blackened riffs and take-no-prisoners breakdowns. The desolate tone of the cut matches its theme.

"'Sick Statistic' is one of our most personal songs to date," explains bassist Madi Watkins. "The weight of the lyrics are matched only by the intensity of it's instrumentation. Lyrically, it represents true hopelessness and the seemingly unbreakable patterns of self-destruction that accompany it." Between walls of blast beats and wicked howls, discordant feedback lends unsettling weight to these lyrical explorations; the storm comes to a close on a wave of squealing anguish and fizzles to a cheerless end.
