Hear Zeal & Ardor Channel Mayhem on Vicious New Song "Waste"

Manuel Gagneux reveals punishing track off black metal–meets-gospel band's forthcoming 'Stranger Fruit' LP

Manuel Gagneux has shared "Waste," a new song set to appear on Zeal & Ardor's forthcoming album Stranger Fruit. Where the record's previously shared single "Gravedigger's Chant" resembled a gospel-metal funeral march (a theme underscored in its accompanying video), "Waste" assumes the form of a brutal, no-holds-barred black-metal ripper, its weeping riffs and relentless blast-beats conjuring the timeless fury of Norwegian forebears like Mayhem and Darkthrone.

"'Waste' is the introduction of the other half of Stranger Fruit," explains Gagneux. "[It's] fully incorporating the gospel and soul elements in black metal and never compromising in its intent. We give you this song as a second single, because it's not what one might expect to come next. This is the feeling that permeates the album as a whole as well."

In related news, Gagneux has announced a handful of summer tour dates in support of Stranger Fruit. The brief North American jaunt, scheduled for mid August, includes stop-offs in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City and Las Vegas. Find a full itinerary below.

Stranger Fruit, the follow-up to last year's debut Devil Is Fine, hits shelves June 8th. The 16-track release was produced by Zebo Adam and mixed by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou. Earlier this year, the band shared an explosive new, one-off "Baphomet."
