High on Fire Announce Lemmy-Inspired Album 'Electric Messiah,' Share Title Track

"I had a dream about Lemmy … where he got pissed at me," says Matt Pike of late Motörhead singer's influence on stoner-thrash trio's forthcoming LP

Stoner-thrash icons High on Fire have announced their first album in over three years: Electric Messiah, due out October 5th via eOne. The follow-up to 2015's Luminiferous marks the Oakland trio's third straight release produced by revered board wizard Kurt Ballou (Converge, Kvelertak, Skeletonwitch).

High on Fire's frontman, Matt Pike, says the inspiration for "Electric Messiah" — both the song and the album — came to him in a dream, in which Motörhead's late Lemmy Kilmeister — to whom the singer and guitarist is frequently compared — gave Pike a piece of his mind.

"When Lemmy was still alive, I always got compared to Lemmy," explains the sandpaper-throated vocalist, "so I had this dream where he got pissed at me. He gave me a bunch of shit, basically, and was hazing me: not that he didn't approve of me, but like I was being hazed."

"The song is me telling the world that I could never fill Lemmy's shoes because Lemmy's Lemmy. I wanted to pay homage to him in a great way. And it turned out to be such a good title that the guys said we should call the album Electric Messiah."

Pre-orders for Electric Messiah are live now at this location. Read on for the album artwork and track listing.

High on Fire's announcement caps off a busy year for Pike, whose other famed stoner band, Sleep, dropped The Sciences — their first full-length in over two decades — on April 20th.
