Hear Rising Goth-Metal Act Idle Hands' New EP 'Don't Waste Your Time II'

Portland upstarts evoke Joy Division, Tribulation on two-song release

Part horns-up heavy metal, part fangs-out goth rock, Portland's Idle Hands met with critical acclaim last year when they dropped their full-length debut, Mana, winning comparisons to Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Tribulation and others. They also got to meet one of their heroes, the immortal King Diamond, who they joined in November and December on a full North American tour. Paving the way to these career high points was the quintet's 2018 EP, Don't Waste Your Time, and today (July 7th), in celebration of that formative release's two-year anniversary, the band has teamed with Revolver to premiere a sequel of sorts to the record. Aptly titled Don't Waste Your Time II, it features a pair of captivating, previously unreleased songs from the era: "It Doesn't Really Matter" and "Puppy Love." Stream the EP above.

"These songs were written in late 2017 in Portland, Oregon, the same time as the rest of the music that would end up on the Don't Waste Your Time EP," Idle Hands singer-guitarist Gabriel Franco tells us. "Drum tracking was completed in early 2018, we were all ready to record ... and then they sat around for two years. We had some free time this year and were finally able to re-approach these songs. The core arrangement structures are the same as they were written in 2017, with original drum tracks and musicians — Gabe, Sebastian, Colin — on the recordings. We even managed to track at Falcon Studios again with our old friend and DWYT engineer-producer-mixer Gabe Johnston for an as-near-uniform approach to this as we had for the original EP. The end result was Don't Waste Your Time II — an expansion of the first release. Songs you should have heard two years ago."

You can pick up Don't Waste Your Time II digitally via Bandcamp or pre-order a very limited-edition 7-inch here for North America and here for Europe.
