The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame hasn't had the best history with heavy metal — something Bruce Dickinson viciously summarized in his now infamous quote:

"I actually think the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an utter and complete load of bollocks, to be honest with you," the Iron Maiden frontman said in 2018 when his spoken word tour swung through Melbourne, Australia. He added, "It's run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn't know rock & roll if it hit them in the face. They need to stop taking Prozac and start drinking fucking beer."

Well, it seems the R&R Hall has taken up drinking (and what better time to do that than 2020) — as their just-announced list of 2021 nominees includes none other than Iron Maiden. This marks the NWOBHM legends' first appearance on the ballot, which also includes Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine and New York Dolls.

This year's nominee list is rounded out by Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, The Go-Go's, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner and Dionne Warwick.

Nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and music industry members. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame also allows fans to participate in the induction selection process. Starting today (February 10th) through April 30, fans can vote every day at rockhall.com, or at the Museum in Cleveland.

Inductees will be announced in May 2021. The 36 annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2021 Induction Ceremony will take place in Cleveland, Ohio this fall. Details and ticket on-sale information will be announced in the coming weeks.
