With the Smashing Pumpkins semi-reunion tour in full swing, the question popped up of how James Iha would split his time between them and his other band A Perfect Circle. Today APC took to Facebook to clarify Iha's future involvement in the group, noting that he will in fact be absent from the upcoming tour, but is still an integral part of the band.
"As you most likely have heard, James Iha's original band, the Smashing Pumpkins, have announced a Summer tour that James will be taking part in," the band said in its statement. "Because James will be busy gearing up for that tour he won't be able to join us for our upcoming tour dates. James' temporary replacement will be none other than our longtime friend and one of our favorite guitar players, Greg Edwards (Failure/Autolux). We want to reiterate that this is a temporary situation and James remains a part of A Perfect Circle."
APC guitarist Billy Howerdel commented on the lineup move in a recent interview with Revolver. "James and I had been talking about this for a while and I've known about this for well over a year that this could happen," said Howerdel, who considers Iha a close friend. "He obviously had my blessing 100 percent. It's great [the Smashing Pumpkins are] getting back together. I try not to think about the bummer that James is leaving."
