Jason Newsted got honest about his thoughts on Metallica's "Black Album." During a 2021 interview with Metal Hammer, which is just being published this week, the band's former bassist revealed how he really feels about some of the songs on the band's iconic — though often divisive — 1991 record. In particular, Newsted shared that he was never hot on the album's most popular and everlasting hit, "Enter Sandman," and that there was another track on the album that he "was kinda scared of."

"I'm going to go back to 'Sad But True,' because that's my highlight of the whole project, because of the weight," he said of his favorite song on the LP. As for what he wasn't so fond of, Newsted said, "I struggled with 'Nothing Else Matters.'"

"I knew it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up — it was undeniable," he continued. "But I was kinda scared of it, to be honest, because I still wanted 'crunch!'. '[Enter] Sandman' I thought was kinda corny, honestly. The beautiful thing was that we all sat in the room together and played it out; 70 takes of 'Nothing Else Matters.' After a while, you're too close to it. 'How much more delicate can I make it?'"

Welp, there you have it. Sleep with one eye open, Jason.
