Jim Carrey Recalls Bizarre First Time He Heard Pantera

Jim Carrey is one of the longest-known celebrity metalheads. Way back in 1994, back before death metal was a massive musical movement that many normies are at least vaguely aware of, the actor tapped the mighty Cannibal Corpse for a hilariously crushing cameo in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. The fact that that happened makes for a great story, but Carrey's tale about the first time he heard Pantera is arguably even better.

In a new interview with FOX 5 Washington DC, as transcribed by Metal Injection, the comedian revealed a totally bizarre experience he had that involved hearing Pantera for the first time, having his mind blown by how heavy they were, and then, in an act of cinematic coincidence, meeting the band in person just a few hours later

"The first time I ever heard Pantera, I was driving down to San Diego [to check into a hotel before doing] a concert at a theater," Carrey said. "Me and my manager, Jim Miller at the time, we put Pantera on. I had never heard anything like it and it hit me on such a level of, like, extreme stimulation that I just started laughing uncontrollably for the entire trek. Just like, nervously laughing, like, 'What is happening right now?'"

"And then we went to check into the hotel, and the guys behind us in the line checking into the hotel were Pantera. We turned around like, Are you kidding me? This is too weird, man."

How does that even happen? Just one of those magical, inexplicable situations that has clearly stuck with Carrey for the last 30-ish years. Watch the full interview below via YouTube.
