Back in August 2017 Rob Zombie announced he'd entered the studio with guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D. and drummer Ginger Fish to begin work on the follow-up to 2016's The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser. While a release date has yet to be announced, over the past few months the singer has shared a few studio updates detailing the recording process (which appears to include John 5 laying down a banjo track). Now, John 5 has confirmed that recording for the as-yet-untitled album has been completed.

"It's being mixed, and it is phenomenal," the guitarist tells Revolver. "I'm telling you it's by far — I can say this because I'm a fan — it's by far his best work. It's incredible."

In the following interview, John 5 gives us a preview of what Zombie's cooking up for the new record, and his thoughts on the recently announced co-headlining summer tour with Marilyn Manson.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE NEW ZOMBIE ALBUM?
JOHN 5 How we did it — and I'm gonna start from the beginning — is what we usually do is me and Rob will get together and we'll work on music and then he'll go away and he'll write lyrics and melodies. This time he started with lyrics and melodies and then I came in and I did all this crazy, crazy music around it. And Rob did, too. So the melodies were already done and the lyrics were already done and I was putting all my music around it. And it worked out phenomenal. I just wish it didn't take 13 years for us to figure this out!

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE SOUND OF THE MUSIC? SONG TITLES?
You know what? I have no idea what the song titles are because I think he does that last. Because the song titles are so crazy. But it's crazy great man. It's a Zombie record. It's heavy. It's groovy. It's got great melodies. It's got great hooks. It's everything you want in a Rob Zombie record. A lot of bands say, "Oh, this is our best record …" I've never said that. Until now. It is by far the best Zombie record. And White Zombie record. Because I love Astro-Creep [2000]. I think it's better. I love this record.

WHERE DID YOU RECORD IT?
At Rob's place in Connecticut. And we did some work here in L.A.

IS THERE A RELEASE DATE?
I have no idea. But if you know anything let me know.

YOU GUYS ARE GOING OUT ON THE ROAD WITH MANSON. YOU'VE PLAYED WITH BOTH ROB AND MARILYN.
Yeah. Ginger too. He played with Manson as well.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT THE TOUR?
What I think that's cool about it, is that anybody that owns a Zombie record owns a Manson record. And anybody that owns a Manson record owns a Zombie record. I mean, it's just that way. So it's gonna be such an amazing tour in that sense. Everybody's gonna dig it. And I'm fine with Manson, we're friends. It's gonna be wonderful. I wish I had some juicy stories but I don't. It's really good times.
