One of Italian gothic-metal band Lacuna Coil's big breaks in the U.S. was their appearance on 2004's Ozzfest where they shared the stage with Slipknot. The experience of playing shows with the Iowa-based nine-piece left a strong impression on vocalist Cristina Scabbia. Below, she picks her favorite Slipknot song and explains why the "melancholic" Vol. 3 composition represents "strength and liberation" to her.

"Vermilion Pt. 2"

I believe it was right after the album Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses) came out that I heard the song the first time. There is just something in the melodies, in the vocals, in the whole vibe that moves me. The video is pretty awesome, too. Absolutely love the end of it.

This song is, at least through my ears, melancholic and sad, but with an epic finale that makes me think of strength and liberation. If I'm not mistaken, it was a song mainly written by Paul Gray. This makes itĀ even more special, now that he is not here with us.
