"The world is crazy and keeps changing. Omens is a reaction to the state of the world," Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe has said of the Virginian metal stalwarts' upcoming new album. "It's a very pissed-off record. ... It is extremely pissed-off."
That anger is evident in Omens' lead single, "Nevermore," which dropped like a nail bomb today (June 10th). In lyrics that ominously harken to Edgar Allan Poe's 1845 gothic poem "The Raven" — which traces a man's slow descent into madness — Blythe traces a nation's descent into madness. He evokes America's racist past ("In antebellum geography/Rage, horror, history") while also painting a vivid picture of an apocalyptic present tense ("This is a reckoning").
