Nu-metal has a rich history of signature vocal moves. From David Draiman's "oo-ah-ah-ah-ah" on Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness" to Jonathan Davis' scats on Korn's "Freak on a Leash," the genre is full of kooky and catchy oral intonations, and now the Letter Black have joined the fold.
At the beginning of the Pennsylvania quartet's explosive new song, "Born for This," frontwoman Sarah Anthony lets out skittering "ah-ah-ow" noise over the rubbery groove. It's one of many moments on the recently-released single that slaps — including the guest vocals from Thousand Foot Krutch frontman Trevor McNevan — and today we're stoked to be premiering the single's accompanying music video.
Throughout the visual, the band rocks out in a dark room in between shots of Anthony being subsumed by water, her standing reflectively in front of burning embers and then leaping back to own her position behind the mic. It's a song that wears concepts like self-identity and determination proudly on its sleeve, and the video brings all of those sentiments to life in a compelling way. Check it out above via YouTube.
"'Born for This' is a song about standing up for what you believe in, in the face of adversity," Anthony tells us. "It's about taking a stand, drawing that line in the sand and boldly saying, 'This is me, this is what I believe, this is who I am, and nothing and no one will shake me.'
"I'm especially excited about this specific release," she adds. "Because it's the first time in TLB history that we're featuring a duet with a guest vocalist — and a powerful one at that!"
